Johannes Kuhnen

Johannes Kuhnen undertook an apprenticeship and studies in Product Design at the Fachhochschule Düsseldorf. Following this, he established a joint studio in Düsseldorf Bilk and conducted a successful studio practice for a number of years.
In 1984, after migrating to Australia, Johannes was appointed Lecturer in Gold and Silversmithing at the Canberra School of Art, ANU. He was appointed Head of the Gold and Silversmithing Workshop in 2001.
Johannes’ work is extensively collected. It is in most major Australian public collections as well as in overseas collections particularly in Europe.
For his work, he has been awarded the State Awards of North Rhine Westphalia and Bavaria in Germany and an Australia Council Fellowship.
Johannes Kuhnen is co-founder of Workshop Bilk with Helen Aitken-Kuhnen.
